What Makes the Difference
The quality of a paint job comes down to preparation. Anyone can roll emulsion onto a wall, but if the surface hasn't been properly filled, sanded, and primed, it'll look rough and won't last. Our decorators spend as much time preparing surfaces as they do painting them. Cracks get raked out and filled properly, flaking paint gets stripped back, and bare plaster gets a mist coat before the finish goes on. It's the boring bit, but it's what separates a good job from a bad one.
For interior work, we use trade-quality paints from Dulux Trade, Crown Trade, and Farrow & Ball depending on the finish and budget you're after. If you're not sure which colours to go with, we're happy to advise. We've painted hundreds of properties across South London and Kent and know what works well in different types of homes.
Exterior painting and woodwork gets a different approach. We clean down surfaces, sand back old paint, treat any rot or bare wood, prime, undercoat, and apply two coats of exterior-grade paint. Exterior work needs to withstand rain, sun, and frost, so cutting corners on prep or using cheap paint just means doing the job again in two years.
Wallpapering is a skill that a lot of decorators don't bother with these days, but we have experienced paperhangers on the team. Whether it's a feature wall, a full room, or specialist wallpaper that needs careful pattern matching, we handle it. We also strip old wallpaper and prepare walls for repainting if you're going in the other direction.
Decorating for Landlords
End-of-tenancy redecorations are one of our most frequent jobs. When a tenant moves out, the property usually needs freshening up before the next one moves in. Scuff marks, nail holes, discolouration, and general wear and tear. We turn these around quickly so the void period is as short as possible.
For rental properties, we tend to recommend neutral, hard-wearing finishes that appeal to the widest range of tenants and stand up to everyday use. A matt or soft sheen emulsion in a warm white for walls, with satinwood on woodwork, is a reliable combination that looks clean and wears well. We keep things simple unless you tell us otherwise.
If you manage multiple properties, we can work through them in a planned schedule, one after another, so your portfolio stays in good condition without having to arrange decorators each time a tenancy ends. We also handle the small touch-ups during a tenancy if a letting agent or tenant reports marks or damage that need sorting.
Common Questions
How long does it take to paint a room?
A standard room with minimal prep takes about a day. That includes cutting in, two coats on walls, and one on the ceiling. If there's a lot of filling, stripping, or woodwork to do, it may take a day and a half to two days. We'll give you a realistic timeline before we start.
Do I need to move my furniture?
We move furniture to the centre of the room and cover everything with dust sheets. For larger items like wardrobes or beds, just pull them away from the walls if you can. We take care of the rest and clean up thoroughly at the end of each day.
Can you match an existing colour?
Yes. If you have the original tin or know the colour code, we'll get an exact match. If not, we can take a sample of the existing paint and have it colour-matched at the trade counter. It's not always perfect on very old or sun-faded paint, but we'll let you know before committing.
How much does a full house repaint cost?
It depends on the size of the property, the number of rooms, and the amount of prep work needed. We quote after a site visit so you get an accurate price. For a standard 3-bed house in reasonable condition, a full interior repaint typically takes a team about a week.
Do you supply the paint?
We can supply it or work with paint you've already bought, whichever you prefer. If we supply it, we buy at trade prices so it's usually cheaper than buying retail yourself. We'll recommend the right type and finish for each surface.
